Lamb steaks with chilli pesto and roasted vegetables
The best choice for this is one of the lighter blonde beers and lagers. The slightly peppery flavours in the salad combined with the slightly caramelised vegetables also need a gentle sweetness.
With this I like some of the lighter blonde beers and lagers will go well. Hops have two characteristics – bitterness and aromas. With this dish you don’t want much bitterness but plenty of aroma!
Alastair Scott’s Recommended Beer matches
Hook Norton Gold – Light but with enough hops
to stand up to the pesto and compliment the succulent lamb.
Pilsner Urquell – a hoppier lager and a bit darker
too, great if the nuts in the pesto are really toasted.
Peroni Gran reserva – richer than normal Peroni
and a bit more caramel to go with the chargrilling
of the steak.
